Channing Tatum and Zooey Deschanel are heading to Studio 8H.
The two will make their Saturday Night Live hosting debuts in February. Tatum, who can be seen in Haywire and opposite Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street, will take the helm Feb. 4 with musical guest Bon Iver, who will be performing on the NBC live sketch show for the first time.
Star of Fox’s New Girl, Deschanel will host the following week on Feb. 11. She received a Golden Globe nomination for her role as the nerdy Jess on the half-hour comedy created by Liz Meriwether. The musical guest for that episode is the “swag pop” music duo Karmin, making their first appearance on the show.
Daniel Radcliffe and singer Lana Del Rey will appear on this weekend’s SNL.
SNL is produced in association with Broadway Video and is executive produced by Lorne Michaels.
Congrats to Zooey and everyone at New Girl for their Golden Globes nominations! Below are a couple of articles with Zooey and Liz Meriwether’s reactions to the news.
Zooey Deschanel (New Girl) – Best Actress in a Comedy
“I am completely overwhelmed with happiness! This is a huge vote of confidence for nerdy girls everywhere! I am so lucky to have this amazing job, and to collaborate with this incredible cast, crew, team of writers and producers. I am so grateful to the HFPA for giving us all this honor and grateful to be nominated with such talented and amazing ladies who I respect so much.”
No surprise here: Fox has picked up freshman hit New Girl for a full season.
The network announced Wednesday that it has ordered an additional 11 episodes of the Zooey Deschanel-fronted comedy, bringing its Season 1 order to 24 episodes.
“We love the charming Zooey Deschanel and the entire cast, we’re knocked out with the work that Liz Meriwether and the whole staff is doing and we are really psyched about the upcoming episodes in the pipeline,” said Fox prez Kevin Reilly. “It’s great that audiences have responded so positively so far and we’re confident that even more people will embrace the show – and more comedy on FOX – this season.”
New Girl bowed last week to more than 10 million viewers, making it Fox’s highest-rated fall sitcom debut in 10 years. Even more impressive, the show maintained nearly all of its premiere audience in Week 2.
Recently Zooey has been mentioned for a new possible project, the upcoming movie “How To Love an American Man” based on the upcoming novel of Kristine Gasbarre. According to the New York Post Gasbarre made it clear whom she favoured to play the lead: Zooey. Still no confirmation about it but we’ll keep you posted on any news about it.
Gasbarre’s story about relocating from New York to Italy to discover her roots and then returning to her parents’ home in small-town Pennsylvania after her grandfather’s death also tells about the love lessons she learned from her widowed grandmother.
But Gasbarre, who has been working with casting agencies, told us, “I have my heart set on Zooey. It needs to be a European actress. I want her to come attached to it.”
A rep for Deschanel, who’s of French descent, said, “While the book has been sent to Sarah [Jackson, Deschanel's agent] to review, there have been zero talks at this point about Zooey being involved.”
